Mallory Park was the host to the 6th round of the Sports2000 Pinto Championship and it was certainly a finish to remember! Top JDR runners Patrick Sherrington and Oliver Stirling qualified 1st and 3rd respectively, and battled for 25 minutes with Class A competitor David Houghton. As they rounded the hairpin for the last time, all eyes were on the 3 leaders – and they crossed the line neck and neck for a true photo finish !
The next round for both Historic and Pinto are at Silverstone on the GP circuit – 2nd and 3rd of September.
Oliver Stirling won the Sports2000 Pinto race to complete a perfect weekend for JDR at Snetterton.
Coming only a day after the win for JDR in Britcar Stirling qualified second in his Tiga SC80 behind the Shrike of Andy Mathew. Patrick Sherrington had a disastrous session in his sister Tiga having been hit by Jonathan Loader on the first lap. David and Robert Fenn claimed an exciting and well deserved maiden Britcar Production win at Snetterton on Saturday in the John Danby Racing prepared Lotus Motorsport Elise.
Robert Fenn showed excellent pace in qualifying and posted a 1.13.2 lap which put the JDR Lotus in 3rd place overall behind the powerful BMW M3 CSLs which were well suited to the fast layout of the Norfolk circuit.
At the start David Fenn made a good getaway in the JDR Lotus Elise and settled into third place behind the fast starting BMW’s. A quick and consistent pace kept the Lotus in the lead battle and when the safety car was deployed just as the pit window opened. A decisive pit call was made to change drivers and refuel. Oliver Stirling won the Thruxton round of the 2009 Sports2000 Pinto championship. After an excellent start for Oliver in his Barry Davison owned Tiga SC80 the race was stopped when Colin Peach lost part of his bodywork in a first corner incident.
Oliver repeated his start from race one to lead into the first corner and was never headed as he built up a lead over 18 seconds by the end of the 20 minute race. Paul Streat was second after an close battle for the whole race with Andy Mathew and David Houghton.
Once again Oliver Stirling dominates the Sports2000 Pinto grid, taking pole position with a stunning performance in qualifying. The session was a mere 15 minutes long; with Oliver taking pole on lap 1 and continuing to set the pace as his lap times continued to drop. As the session ended, Oliver’s time of a 1.20.5, set the standard - a full 0.7 seconds in front of second place.

Having qualified in a strong 2nd position the Castle Combe Britcar race started with a dramatic crash for Rob Fenn. Rob’s Lotus Elise was collected by the out of control BMW of Gent at Bobbies chicane.
He pitted immediately to check for damage to the right hand front suspension. The JDR pit crew changed the damaged wheel and Rob rejoined only to find the damaged suspension had effected the brakes.
Despite all odds the father son duo David & Rob Fenn qualified a superb second place in the Britcar meeting at Castle Combe – Saturday 8th August.
A holed radiator in early morning practice resulted in engine problems for the JDR run Lotus Elise and an engine change was the only choice. JDR successfully completed the engine change with only moments to go before qualifying….
Rob began the session, with David to follow before the chequered flag. Robs time of 1:12.4 had the Duo starting in a superb second position.
As announced in Autosport magazine JDR are building a pair of Honda NSX race cars for David and Robert Fenn. The first car will be for Britcar production and will appear in the Britcar 500 at Silverstone. The second car will be a Super GT replica and will be ready for 2010.
JDR had a successful weekend at Oulton Park dominating the top of the podium and timesheets. Patrick Sherrington sprinted to a race 1 win in Barry Davisons SC80 Tiga after James Barclay retired. Things where much closer in race 2 with James leading Patrick for the whole race by no more than a cars length before crossing the line for the win. JDR has now won the last 10 sports 2000 races it has entered with the promise of more to come.
The JDR run Lotus Motorsport Elise of Rob and David Fenn had a supurb showing in the AMOC Super GT race at Snetterton. Rob in race one had a race long battle with an Aston Martin N24. He overtook around the outside at Coram for 2nd overall and a class win with only a few laps to go. David took the car for the second race and battled with the same Aston. After a coming together coming into the chicane and with rain falling David finished a close 3rd overall 2nd in class behind the N24 Aston
