Atkins Elan Finished

Last weekend saw the completion and debut of the Nick Atkins 26R Lotus Elan. The Elan was painstakingly built by JDR on a donor chassis with a new body shell. After a successful test on Tuesday it was taken directly to the Nurburgring for its debut race at the famous Oldtimers meeting. Qualifying went well and with Nick getting used the car he said it had “tremendous grip”. All eyes then turned to the sky as rain was forecast for raceday. The rain certainly came and the car was ready with wet tyres and settings. Unfortunately our race and all the remaining races where canceled only an hour before the start due to flooding on the track (it was really heavy rain). Nick and the Elan will be back at the Donnington Masters round on September 5th.

HISTORIC CAMPAIGN FOR JDR IN 2010

2010 sees JDR competing widely in the Historic motor racing scene.

In April Barry Davison raced in his John Danby Racing prepared Lotus Eleven at a spectacular VSCC meeting, and this coming weekend John Danby Racing will be runing two Lotus Elites at the home of British motor racing, Silverstone.

This begins a season-long campaign by JDR with some wonderful period cars.

We are proud to be running Liz Halliday in a rare Alfa Romeo Guilietta SZ at some prestigious meetings including the Silverstone Classic, the Coppa Del Mondo in Monza and the Goodwood Revival.

Liz drove the JDR prepared Alfa at the Silverstone Classic PR Testday in early May as a prequel to the main event in July.

2010 SEASON GETS OFF TO A GREAT START

JDR’s 2010 season is well underway, with three race events and several tests to date.

In April the GT Cup debuted at Silverstone, with David & Rob in the newly developed NSX. Subjected to some serious over-winter development the NSX finished both races and turned many heads in the paddock.

A week later we joined the VSCC for a superb meeting at Silverstone, running Barry’s newly acquired Lotus Eleven in the 50s Sportscar race. After a days testing Barry’s confidence grew and the lap times dropped, and the weekend ended with a triumphant race.

May saw the team at Thruxton for the second GT Cup race, where David added fastest lap to his scoresheet!

BRITCAR PRODUCTION- 2ND PLACE WINNERS 2009!

The John Danby Racing run father & son team of David & Rob Fenn won second place in the 2009 Britcar Production Championship in their Motorsport Elise.

The Elise, developed by JDR throughout the season to be a race winning car, grossed the highest points score of all Championship entries, but went on to be awarded second place when dropped scores were taken into account.

Congratulations to David & Rob for an excellent debut season!

DOUBLE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN – AWARDS NIGHT

Congratulations again to JDR’s Patrick Sherrington & Oliver Stirling for their domination in the Sports2000 Historic Championship & Pinto Championships respectively. The undefeated Tiga of Sherrington claimed all 5 race wins in the Historic Championship in 2009. “It has been a pleasure running both Oliver & Patrick this year, and we are very proud to yet again see two JDR run cars winning the Championships!” said John Danby.

We have added new Youtube videos of Rob Barff Driving the Lotus Elise in the Britcar 500 and Vicki Butler-Henderson driving the newly built Honda NSX at Brands Hatch in the final Britcar race of 2009. Both races were a success with a 3rd in class for the Lotus and a 2nd for the Honda.

DOUBLE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN FOR JDR

John Danby Racing’s Patrick Sherrington & Oliver Stirling both clinched Championship wins and race wins at Brands Hatch this weekend.

In a close title race, Oliver Stirling snatched a victory from championship contender David Houghton to win the Sports2000 Pinto Championship 2009. Winning team JDR, Davison Highley & Endesign (Stirling’s sponsors), won the Sports2000 Historic Championship together in 2008.

Stirling hands the title of Historic Sports2000 Champion over to JDR’s Patrick Sherrington. Sherrington, supported by sponsor ADI, won each and every Historic race in the Championship.
